Lav Kovač (1991) working primarily as a composer, drummer & sound designer. I’ve made music for various purposes & occasions, contributed to the birth of music collective Horz, and played drums on 30 albums and counting.

Having being exposed to very peculiar music of avant-garde, contemporary classical, folk and jazz from when I was zero years old, I’ve developed a strange taste for music that is guiding me both consciously and subconsciously in my strivings for musical expression ever since I started making and playing music.
After studying classical percussion with Srđan Palačković and graduating from elementary and music high school “Isidor Bajić” I switched to jazz drums and got a diploma from Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, The Netherlands, in the class of Steve Altenberg. There I’ve met some of the most peculiar musical characters breeding on this planet, still sharing the stage with many of them.

I’ve extensively performed in The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Luxembourg, Turkey, Israel, Russia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Greece, Romania, UK, Switzerland, Spain…; performed at The Great Escape, Liverpool Sound City, Cully Jazz Fest, Waves Vienna, Zomer Jazz Fietstour, Alarma Punk Jazz, Fusion Festival, Tirol Jazz festival, Belgrade Jazz Festival, Ring Ring, Interzone, etc.

2004 to 2008 – classical Accordion orchestra AKUD “Sonja Marinković”, percussionist
2005 to 2008 – Vojvodina Philharmonic Orchestra, percussionist
2008 to 2009 – “Brod za Lutke” theatre performance of Serbian National Theatre, musician on stage
2009 – “Nahod Simeon” theatre performance of Serbian National Theatre, musician on stage
2008 to 2018 – recorded and toured extensively with Boris Kovač in his various groups
2010 – EuroMed Festival, performer
2012 to 2017 – drummer of band KUHN FU, performed over a 100 concerts around Europe and recorded
two albums
2015 to 2016 – drummer and songwriter of band Howling Owl, performed on festivals such as The Great
Escape, Liverpool Soundcity etc.
2018 to present – contributed to the birth of Horz – a collective dedicated to creating and promoting
adventurous new music (www.horz.co)
2019 – organizer of Hillock Carnival – festival of new music in Plovdiv, part of the European Culture
Capital program.
2019 – composer & sound designer for contemporary dance piece “Vertigo Birds” – production of EN-
KNAP company, Ljubljana & directed by Iztok Kovač.
2020 – composer & sound designer for contemporary dance piece “COGITO” – production of EN-KNAP
company, Ljubljana & directed by Tamas Tuza.
2021 – composer & sound design for short CGI film „10,9,8,7,6,…“ of Sanja Andjelković.
2022 – OneBeat Virtual residency participant
2022 – author and developer of 3D interactive application “Alphabet of the Forest”
2022 – co-composing chamber choir performance “LOOK UP! I AM NO CANOPY – I AM A MESSENGER”
